Why GarageMath exists
GarageMath is an independent project run by John, an automotive enthusiast and business student. It grew from a practical problem: a calculator can return a convincing number without explaining the assumptions that make it useful. The site makes those assumptions inspectable.
The tools cover tire and wheel geometry, gearing, engine volumes, fuel-system planning, fuel cost and performance comparisons. They run in the browser without an account. The number is the start of the answer; product data, measurements and vehicle-specific requirements complete the decision.
What the project claims
GarageMath explains arithmetic and its limits. It does not claim professional engineering certification, manufacturer endorsement, a tested vehicle fleet or a repair facility. A wheel calculator cannot see a caliper, and an injector estimate cannot measure fuel pressure. The examples are teaching cases rather than approved combinations.
How explanations and calculations are checked
The pages use a shared calculation module. Automated known-answer checks cover the equations, invalid inputs and page initialization. New worked examples are recalculated before publication, and the documentation distinguishes nominal, published, measured and estimated values.
AI assistance is used in drafting and development. It is not a credential or evidence of correctness. Calculations, sources and interface behavior require separate checks; automated and AI-assisted review does not constitute professional certification or a vehicle test. Editorial standard
Each guide owns a distinct reader question. Calculator explanations help interpret inputs and outputs; guides develop the measurement and decision workflow. GarageMath avoids mass-produced tire-size variants, invented cause rankings and unexplained approval thresholds.
A diagnostic-code reference section is being considered under the same standard. It will require verified definitions, appropriate data rights and clear applicability before publication. No diagnostic lookup is currently provided, and the site does not claim to diagnose a vehicle from a code.
